It's all coming together! AMTEC 2001 promised a lobster dinner when Halifax first issued its invitation, and we'll deliver. We are holding the event in Pier 21 , Canada's Immigrant Experience exhibit centre, on June 5.
Before dinner, guests will have the fascinating Pier 21 exhibit and multimedia show all to themselves, with a cash bar in the foyer for those intent on networking. Nearly all our families came from somewhere else; here's your chance to revisit the very place, perhaps, in which your family became Canadian.
Dinner itself will feature boiled lobster , drawn butter and all the trimmings for all of us carnivores (there's even a little theatre thrown into the presentation), but there are non-seafood and vegetarian alternatives for our less sanguine diners. All this, with a choice of desserts, too.
After dinner, count on a little music to settle those crustaceans. We have Dave MacIsaac and Louis Benoit, fiddlers , with their keyboard accompanist, to initiate you in Down East foot-stomping style And of course, the bright lights of downtown's after hours district are only a short walk away.
At other times, we'll feature other East Coast music in connection with more good food and drink. The AMTEC 2001 Media Festival will be June 4, in the McInnis Room of the Dalhousie Student Union Building, preceded by a buffet supper and sprinkled with jazz performances from the cream of Halifax's outstanding school music program .
During the conferences, lunches will be on-site, with a sandwich buffet, a barbecue, and on the final day an AGM buffet lunch with a very special prize draw. Watch this space for more details!
So, please don't expect to diet in Halifax, but expect to be amused... Any questions? Contact us at AMTEC2001@ednet.ns.ca
